Our final unit!

Complete small activities and/or worksheets based on in-class mini-lessons, or use your time to create a film, re-interview on a previous unit (for credit in this unit!), or conduct an open inquiry on the French topic of your choice.

In-Class Mini-Lessons and Mini Activities

Every class begins with a mini lesson covering grammar, culture, or stories/storytelling:

  • L’Infinitif (grammar)
  • Futur Proche (grammar)
  • French sound patterns (grammar)
  • History of Parisian Fashion (culture)
  • French and the World Cup (culture)
  • Les Choristes Film (storytelling)

The remaining class time will be spent completing a related in-class activity. Alternatively, you can forego working on this activity to complete one of the following options:

Double Dip

If you received 67% or less on one of your portfolio interviews, you can re-interview on this topic. A sincere effort and an improved grade will result in a revised grade for your original unit, and a matching grade for unit 8!

This does not apply for a unit you have not yet completed. (Such a unit can be submitted, then re-interviewed after the fact if necessary.)

Create a Film

In your previous unit you created a film poster. Now you have the opportunity to actually make the film! The film should be entirely in French and will be evaluated using this rubric.

Minimum script length is 300 words. Minimum film length is 3 minutes. The film should be entirely in the French language.

Keep in mind that class time this unit is limited. If chosen, this project may require time spent outside of class.

Open Inquiry

Choose this option to tackle the French topic of your choice. The project should be framed as an open-ended question, and will be assessed based on this rubric. Based on this rubric your project should include:

  • Formal research (ie. notes)
  • A way to present your information
  • 2 check-ins
  • French vocabulary (ie. “use of conventions, vocabulary, terminology”)
  • Reflection

Here are some sample topics:

  • Are the differences between anglophone and francophone internet memes important?
  • Which language is more interesting, French or English?

“And so with the sunshine and the great bursts of leaves growing on the trees, just as things grow in fast movies, I had that familiar conviction that life was beginning over again with the summer.”

F. Scott Fitzgerald
